Best of the Best of Twenty Ten

Here are a few of my favorite things from 2010 (most of which have been newly discovered this year):

Best face scrub: Sugar in the raw combined with tamanu oil, dried and ground orange peel, and a drop or two of essential oil

Best deodorant: Coconut oil with baking soda and cornstarch

Best soap: Dr. Bronner’s pure castile soap, which I have used in everything from beauty products to laundry detergent and even straight in the dishwasher

Best happy pill: Woman’s Best Friend

Best food: Avocados

Best lotion bar: TheBumbleBeeStudio lavender lotion bar

Best stress relief/workout/me time: Yoga

Best all-purpose home cleaner: Borax

Best all-purpose myself cleaner: Baking soda

Best hair masque/moisturizer: Coconut oil

Best lotion: Water, tamanu and kukui nut oils and emulsifying wax

Best scent: Lavender

Best makeup: Bare Escentuals

Best handmade gift: Corn heating pad given to me by my boss… (not sure exactly what sort of corn is in it, but it’s sewn up into a soft fleece cover and stays super warm for a long time after you warm it up in the microwave for about 4 minutes)

Best cheat treat: Practically anything my husband bakes, (he is an awesome baker!) but if I had to narrow it down, it would be a tie between his peanut butter cookies and no-bake cocoa cookies, both of which we are striving to make healthier while retaining maximum flavor!  So far, I have gotten him to tweak his recipes only minimally, which is probably why they are so delicious.  Both cookies are made healthier by using all natural and whole grain ingredients, but maybe we can get creative in 2011!

Best salad: Spinach and strawberry salad with honey-toasted pecans tossed in apple cider vinegar and honey dressing

Best book: Also a tie, between Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love, and Radical- Taking back your faith from the American dream by David Platt

and finally…

Best sound: The laughter of my boys while they’re playing together (a new sound to my ears since previously the only thing they have been capable of doing together is fighting, or, more precisely, my oldest biting/hitting or otherwise torturing the baby)

Here’s wishing you a very happy 2011, and hoping I discover more fun and freakish experiments to perform in the coming year!
